There is many things that a company can do to boost production at the work place. Many places try to do some incentives to boost productivity like, offering lunch or having office parties or office outings. The reason many of these companies do this is because they want to boost moral or boost productivity so that they can preform better at work. Almost all companies do this so they could also show that they appreciate their workers. Bigger companies like an Amazon or a Facebook or even Google have really cool perks which make people want to work for these companies. Some perks that make people want to work here is like having a really cool work place, I know google has there main office in NYC and i've been inside once and the building is in a really cool area and there are many cool things inside the building which make it almost seem not even like an office. Because of these reason it makes people want to work for these companies.

In this example we will be talking about team production with gift exchange. A way this could work and be even for everyone would be to make it as an incentive thing. So you hit a certain goal that was set for you and if you hit or exceed that goal the incentive could be that you can get a "gift" for hitting that goal. This way everyone has the same chance of getting the incentive, and not one person is favorited. Team production is something that needs to be integrated in the work place, which means you need to have someone in charge of team production, like a team leader, or a captain to make sure that workers are being motivated. I think it easy to just throw a party or a lunch in at the work place to try to get people motivated.

Overall motivation in the work place is something that would eventually lead to more production in the work place. There are many incentives that companies can do to get people motivated and keep production as optimal as possible. This gift exchange idea is what the prompt asked for us to talk about but, I think there are better ways to have have better production. I think one of the best ways to do this is something I talked about earlier which is having a "cool" workplace to work at. I think this makes people self motivated and it makes work seem less like work. These examples could be taken from companies like Facebook, Google.

  1. So, here are some questions you should consider and think through before answering.

    About working environs, you mentioned "really cool" multiple times. I'm not sure what that means (I haven't been to the Google office) but let's say it is clear what it means. Does that matter for employee productivity? I can see it would matter initially if the person was very excited to work there. But what's unclear to me is whether that excitement persists so the environment continues to exert this effect or if one gets used to it and then it becomes, "no big deal." For me, I care a lot about whether the environment is comfortable - physically and socially. If it is uncomfortable in either dimension that is a downer and will negatively impact productivity.

    I think you aren't getting it about gift giving. It is the opposite of an incentive. It is a purely voluntary act, done without an expectation of a quid pro quo. It is part of the ethos of the place. If everyone gives gifts now and then you are more apt to enjoy working at the place and you might take please in seeing somebody else's gift directed at a third person. Being the recipient of a gift can be rewarding too, but not as an incentive, rather as being part of the organization.

    You could give me a gift later in the semester where in some other post you reconsidered what you wrote in the second paragraph, which you labeled as a gift, but really is a bonus payment. If you were able to tie the idea to the prompt done at that time, it would be a gift to me indeed.
