In this post I will be reflecting on my first half of the semester and all the post ive done so far. Many of the post I have connect in some aspects. All except for the first post have been connected through prompts that have been given my the professor. All these post have to do with economic principles that we discuss in class. Since this class is about economics of organizations, many of the post relate to that. The post that connect the most in my post are the last 2 post we had to do. The first post being about what makes a well run organization and the one about illini bucks. I feel like it connects because in the post about how a well run organization should be ran made us look deeper on what make an organization run correctly. This connects with the illini bucks post because we had to come up with a situation that would be beneficial to students and the university, and we have to have a mindset that makes you think how an organization could insure that illini bucks would work.
In retrospect looking at the post about opportunism also connects with the post about a well run organization. I think the post about what a well run organization was the post that connects a lot of the post that we had to write about because again it makes you think about what a well run organization is supposed to be like. It makes you take a step back and really understand what make a well run organization.
The process of writing these post hasnt really changed for me. I usually read the prompt, then think about what I want to write about and just type freely, then later reread what I typed and change or add more content until I feel like the post is complete and to the point without it having fluff. The one thing I will say I need to get better at is posting earlier. I think with the soft deadlines are generous in terms of if i forgot to post its fine because I know I can turn it in a little late. That being said I think that new "deadline" before Sunday will help me keep on tract with my post. The soft deadline made me forget to do my post on time every week.
If I was put in the position of writing the prompts and act as the professor I would do more post asking questions that would connect things we talked about in class and try to connect it to personal experiences that I had. I think this makes the post more meaningful for the person who is writing the post. This also makes the writer think about situations that they experienced in real life and make connections to class. Sometimes as a students you are in a class and you think when will I ever use the content presented in class by the professor and adding personal experience in post make you feel like "wow these are concepts we learned in class and it connects to the real world" This is my personal opinion but I know many students who feel like this as well.

I'm sensing that you struggle with the writing in that you are not sure what to say, so you are very general and don't drill down at all. In the above you talked about what makes an organization run well. Can you give an example or two, perhaps one where the organization had some problems and a different one where the organization ran smoothly? If you can, that suggests a question. Why one or the other? I would like you to reach the point where you can pose questions of that sort in your posting. You didn't do that above.
ReplyDeleteEarly in the semester I talked about pre-writing. I wonder if you are doing that at all. This is thinking done away from the computer, asking yourself how you will address the prompt. I appreciate your being straightforward about some procrastination as a consequence of the soft-deadline approach. But I wonder if you understand how much earlier you need to get started on the writing task in order to produce something that is interesting to read. You really shouldn't be able to dash off these posts. Getting some depth in them does take time.
Let me also suggest that you consider how the blog posts related to the Excel homework. This might be most obvious on the relationship between Transfer Pricing and the Illinibucks prompt. But it also could come in, for example, in talking about the Prisoner's Dilemma and connecting it with Opportunism. If you made such connections, it might help you get more out of the class.
